Donald Weiland

Donald "Don" L. Weiland, 91, of Britt, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at Westview Care Center.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at First Lutheran Church, 70 5th Avenue Northwest in Britt, with Pastor Anna Wolff officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 6:00 PM on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at Ewing Funeral Home in Britt.

Donald Leroy, son of Clarence and Leona (Monson) Weiland, was born on the farm in rural Britt. He grew up in the Britt and Hayfield area, and graduated from Hayfield High School. After high school, Don worked for a local farmer and worked in Florida during the winter. He joined the Army for a short period of time before returning back to Britt area.

On February 28, 1961, Don was united in marriage to Darlene Franzen at the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Titonka. They made their home near Britt where Don worked for Dale Frazier farming until 1972 when they purchased and moved to their farm north of Britt where they raised their family. They moved into Britt in 1988.

Don loved farming over the years and later worked at Marting Manufacturing and the grocery store, where he loved visiting with people as he carried out their groceries. He enjoyed making various metal projects and going antiquing. Don was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Britt. His family was most important to him, especially his grandchildren.

Don is survived by his son David (Jane) Weiland of Sheffield and their children Jennifer (Brody) Franzeen, Kristine (Trent) Trask and their two children Jaylon and Paxton, and Sarah Weiland; daughter Deanna (Mark) Christopherson of Forest City and their children Jessica Buck and her three children Caelyn, Addison, and Liam, Michelle (Tyler) Haugland and their three children Tristen, Hayden, and Presten, and Jacob (Mackenzie) Christensen and their four children Emmitt, Madden, Booker, and Miller; sister Imogene Burgardt; and many extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife Darlene in 2022; son Douglas Weiland in 1964; infant son in 1966; infant grandson Nathan Weiland in 1992; parents Clarence and Leona Weiland; and many siblings and their spouses.
