Doris Alma Schaefer, the daughter of Christian and Emelia (Lembgen) Schaefer was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1907 near Klemme, Iowa.  She was raised on a farm near Klemme and attended country school at Liberty #8.  Doris stayed home from school to help care for her mother during her prolonged illness.  Following her mother's death, she continued to care for the family home.
