Dorothy Abbas, 95, died Sunday, April 3, 2016 at the Rehabilitation Center of
Belmond.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Bethany
Reformed Church in Belmond. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 6, 2016 from
5:00 -7:00 p.m. at Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond.
Dorothy, daughter of Will J. and Titcia Frohling Boelman, was born January 24,
1921 five miles east of Belmond on the "hospital farm". She attended and
graduated from Belmond High School. While growing up, Dorothy helped a lot on
the farm. She did housework, worked and drove tractors in the fields, and did
chores.
On October 2, 1941 she married Henry B. Abbas. The couple moved to Franklin
County for one year. They returned to the farm east of Belmond where they lived
for 37 years until Henry's death on March 2, 1978. Dorothy continued to farm for
three years. Two years later she bought a house in town. Dorothy worked as a
cook for the Belmond School District for ten years. She moved to the Belmond
Community Apartments in 1994.
Dorothy enjoyed her home and her son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry; daughter-in-law Roberta Abbas;
sisters Thada and Henrietta; brothers Joyce, Herman and Bud; and several
in-laws.
Dorothy is survived by her son Gary Abbas of Des Moines; grandchildren and
great-grandchildren Aaron (Carrie) Abbas and children Saylor, Spenser and Seth
of Des Moines; Nathan Abbas and children Avery, Emerson and Thaden of Des
Moines; and Beth (Chad) Sealine and children Abigail, Corrin and Orien of Des
Moines; sister Ruth Dorenkamp; brother Daryl Boelman; and sister-in-law Marie
Boelman.
