Dorothy J. O'Brien, age 87, of Belmond, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2016 at
the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond.
Dorothy Jean, daughter of Carl and Ann (Davis) Clausen, was born on December 26,
1928 in Duncombe. Dorothy graduated as valedictorian from Duncombe High School
in 1945. She received a scholarship from Pepsi. After graduating, Dorothy moved
to Isabella Halls, a Catholic home for girls, in Fort Dodge. Dorothy worked as a
telephone operator, where she met the love of her life, Paul 'Bud' O'Brien.
On June 9, 1951, Dorothy was united in marriage with Paul O'Brien in Duncombe.
The couple was blessed with four children: Jerry, Bill, Kevin, and Kathy. In
1972, they moved to Belmond. Dorothy worked as a CNA at the care center in
Belmond for 19 years before she retired.
Dorothy enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, and reading in her free time. She
liked working outside and tending to her flowers. She always had a good sense of
humor. Dorothy loved family gatherings and cooking meals for her family.
Dorothy is survived by her son William O'Brien of Belmond; daughter Kathleen
Eliason of Belmond; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband; two sons Jerry and Kevin; son-in-law
Jim Eliason; eight sisters; four brothers; and her parents Carl and Ann Clausen.
