Obituary


Dorothy Marie Threlkeld was much admired and loved by her family.   She was aged 95 and lived at Westview Care Center in Britt, Iowa. She peacefully passed on Sunday April 29th, 2012 in her room at Westview Care Center surrounded by family.

Funeral services for Dorothy Threlkeld will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 139 3rd Street SE, Britt with Rev. Dennis Miller officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation for Dorothy Threlkeld will be held on Friday, May 4, 2012 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 178 Center Street West, Britt and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. 

Dorothy M. Threlkeld was born to Lumir and Carrie Stritesky on January 10th, 1917 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Dorothy attended Cedar Rapids Washington High School. Following high school, she attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids and was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She briefly worked for Russell’s Guide in Cedar Rapids. She married John H. Threlkeld on August 3, 1939 in Cedar Rapids. Together, John and Dorothy, lived in Ames, Davenport, Kansas City and Eagle Grove. During their time in Kansas City, Missouri, John worked for US Chemical Corporation. With Britt, Iowa being the center of his sales territory, John and Dorothy decided to move to Britt and start Britt Tech Corporation as a way to promote US Chemical sales. The pressure washer manufacturing business took off from there and became a pillar of the Britt business community for over 25 years. Dorothy was an instrumental driving force behind Britt Tech’s success while raising two children, Denny Threlkeld of Britt and Carol Thompson of Britt. She was also very active in the community serving as a leader for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, as a well as, being very active in St. Patrick’s church.

John and Dorothy enjoyed international and domestic travel including Japan, Germany, and Mexico. Wintering at Hawaii for over fifteen years, it was one of their favorite destinations.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Threlkeld. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Thompson of Britt, son Dennis Threlkeld and his wife Carolyn of Britt, sister Ruth Archibald of Cedar Rapids, grand children Sue Threlkeld McKee of Houston, Texas, Rebecca Threlkeld of Des Moines, Christie Carlo of Pella, Stephanie Morris of Britt, Douglas Thompson of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Robert Thompson of Iowa City. She is also survived by eleven great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the West Hancock Scholarship Fund.
