Obituary


Dorothy T. Schroeder, 86, of Kanawha, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2003, at North Iowa Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

Dorothy Terrell, was born February 25, 1917, in Des Moines, Iowa.  Dorothy lived at the Woodward Children's Home in Marshalltown until she was 11  years old.  At that time, Bill and Dot Ketchum of Rowan adopted her.  She enjoyed playing girl's softball or "kitten ball" as Dorothy called it.

Dorothy was united in marriage with Carl Schroeder on August 31, 1940, in Rowan, Iowa.  The couple made their home in Kanawha.

A housewife and mother, Dorothy was employed for a short time as an assistant to the bus driver on the Hancock County bus for physically and mentally challenged children in the area.  She loved to garden and can vegetables for the family to enjoy winter; tomato preserves were her specialty.  She loved bowling, playing horseshoes, and was a fan of the Minnesota Twins and Iowa Hawkeye football.

Dorothy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Kanawha where she had taught Sunday school, Sunday school secretary, and helped with the Bible school program.  She was a very active lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Rebekahs, and held many positions in these organizations.

Dorothy is survived by her son Wilfred D. and his wife, Colleen of Cleveland, Ohio and a grandson Ryan D. Schroeder of Cleveland, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl on December 26, 1989.
