Duaine J. Nelson, 82, of Britt passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at his
home. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2020 from 3:00 - 5:00 PM
at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt. Memorial services and
burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery at a later date. Those in attendance
will be asked to follow social distancing guidelines and are encouraged to wear
a face covering. Duaine Joseph Nelson, the son of Joseph and Corrine (Narvick)
Nelson, was born March 19, 1938 on the family farm in Orthel Township. Duaine
attended Orthel Township country school and graduated from Britt High School in
1956. Following graduation, he worked briefly for the highway commission before
starting his lifelong farming career. Duaine was united in marriage to Beverly
Allen on March 26, 1960 at the Kanawha United Methodist Church. Following their
marriage Duaine and Bev moved to the farm where they have resided their entire
married life. He farmed with his son Doug over 40 years which allowed them time
to restore numerous John Deere tractors. He was member of The First Lutheran
Church in Britt where he served on various boards. He also served on the
Woden-Hutchins Co-op Board and the Hancock County Ag Museum Board. Duaine
enjoyed his "farm breaks" by having coffee with the guys. Papa D was a man of
few words, but he taught life lessons by just being there and passing his
knowledge and wisdom on to the next generation. He is survived by his wife of 60
years, Beverly Nelson of Britt; children Douglas (Sheryl) Nelson of Britt,
Michael (Shirley) Nelson of Blairsburg, Janelle (Ernest) Bartz of Iowa Falls,
Curtis (Kammy) Nelson of Clarion and Joleen (Greg) Arnold of Pella; 11
grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister Janet Meyer of Austin, Texas;
along with nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister
Jean TerHark, and grandson Mark Irvin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made
to MercyOne Hospice or the Hancock County Ag Museum.
