Obituary


Duane "Dewey" Duncan Jordanger, 67, passed away Saturday June 14, 1997, at his home in Kanawha, Iowa.

Duane, the son of Clarence and Myrtle (Duncan) Jordanger, was born December 31, 1929, in Kanawha, Iowa.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith.  He attended school in Kanawha, graduating from Kanawha High School in 1948.  After high school he helped on the family farm, then entered the U.S. Army in 1951 where he served during the Korean Conflict.  He was united in marriage with Joyce Helvick on May 23, 1953, at the First Lutheran Church in Humboldt, Iowa. After his discharge, the couple made their home in Kanawha where Duane farmed.  He also worked for a time at Marting Manufacturing.

Duane was a member of the Kanawha Lutheran Church and Lutheran Brotherhood.  He was also a member of the American Legion Post #77, Farm Bureau and the community Breakfast Social Club.  Duane enjoyed farming and livestock.  He had a special "gift to gab." He liked to spend his free time bowling, fishing and throwing horseshoes.  He also enjoyed his weekly trip to Forest City to the livestock sale barn, and being an "imitation auctioneer" at various church functions.

Duane is survived by his wife, Joyce; his daughter, Cynthia Mathiason and her husband, Dennis and their children, Nicole and Scott of Armstrong; and son, Randall and his wife, Phyllis and their children, Erin and Amanda of Kanawha.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister - Marjorie.
