Durwood Lee LaRue

Durwood Lee LaRue, 73, Belmond, died May 7, 2016 at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond.

Services were held Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Dugger Funeral Home in Belmond

Durwood, son of Norman and Dena Steenhard LaRue, was born November 26, 1942 on his grandparents farm near Meservey. Durwood attended and graduated from Dumont High School in 1961. He went on to Hamilton Business School, graduating in 1962.

In 1965 Durwood was united in marriage to Patty Patterson. To this union two children were born: Shawn and Dawn.

Durwood previously lived in South Carolina before moving back to Belmond in 2011 due to health issues. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, quilting and cross-stitching flour sack towels. He loved watching old westerns, especially John Wayne movies, and listening to old county music. Durwood loved his grandchildren. Whether it be by text or phone, he enjoyed hearing from them.

Durwood is survived by his daughter Dawn (Delwin) Barkema of Belmond; grandchildren Brittany and Brenna Barkema of Belmond and Travis LaRue and Zac Salazar of Henderson, NC; daughter-in-law Gail LaRue of Henderson; brother Donald (Patty) LaRue of Ionia; sister Norma (Butch) Whipple of Dows; and sister-in-law Hattie LaRue of Dumont.

He was preceded in death by his son Shawn; his brother Dewayne; and his parents.
