Dwight Reiland, 68, of Clarion passed away Monday, March 28, 2016 at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Dwight Reiland will be held at 2:30 PM on Friday,
April 1, 2016 at St. John's Catholic Church, 608 2nd Avenue Northeast in
Clarion, with Reverend Jerry Blake officiating. Burial will be held at St.
John's Catholic Cemetery in Clarion.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2016, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM,
with a scriptural wake service beginning at 4:45 PM at St. John's Catholic
Church in Clarion, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on
Friday.
Dwight was born on March 15, 1948 to Oswald and Anna Maude (Schroeder) Reiland
in Clarion. He attended high school in Clarion and graduated with the Class of
1966. He later completed his bachelor's degree at the University of Northern
Iowa.
He enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1970 – 1972. Dwight was
awarded a Bronze Star for valor in the Vietnam War.
On December 9, 1972, Dwight and Deanna Ahrens were united in marriage. In 1982,
they started building their home near Pikes Timber Park. The two worked well
together making many special memories throughout the process.
History was a love of Dwight's; even reading encyclopedias in his free time
growing up. Dwight was the Wright County Recorder for 36 years. As President of
the Iowa County Recorders' Association, he led the development and
implementation of the CLRIS software. Dwight was also an avid hunter, and he
especially enjoyed turkey hunting in Northeast Iowa.
Dwight was known for his patience and kind heart. He was always looking to help
someone before helping himself. He will be greatly missed as a pillar in our
community.
Dwight is survived by his wife, Dee of Clarion; two sons, Pat (Angie) Reiland of
Clarion, and Jeff (Jenny) of Des Moines; grandchildren, Natalie, Reed, Marissa,
Cooper, Travis and Cade; mother, Shi Reiland of Clarion; brothers, Richard
Reiland of Clarion and Ron (Mary) Reiland of Savanna, Illinois; and many other
family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ozzie; brothers, Tim and Duane Reiland.
