Dwight T. Whelan, 83, of Clarion passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center. Memorial services for Dwight Whelan will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 20, 2017 at First Lutheran Church, 420 First Street Northwest in Clarion with Pastor Grant Woodley officiating.  Burial will be held at the Belmond Cemetery in Belmond. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Monday, March 20. Dwight Thomas Whelan was born April 3, 1933 to Thomas and Grace (Hartwig) Whelan in Hampton, Iowa. He attended school in Belmond and graduated with the class of 1951. Dwight served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955. The following year on June 24, 1956 he married Linda Lou Gealow. The couple made their home in Belmond, and later moved to Clarion. Dwight shared a love of music with his wife, and was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church in Clarion. Dwight is survived by his sister-in-law Delores (Jerry) Toft, five special nieces and nephews, numerous other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 56 years, Linda, one brother Loren Whelan, and sister Mary Proeger.
