Obituary

Ed DeGeus, 79, left town on December 1, 2017, and he ain’t comin’ back.

Visitation for Ed DeGeus will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on January 14, 2018 at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt.

Edward Lee DeGeus was born on May 23, 1938 to Nicholas Jr. and Leota (Hulbert) DeGeus. He was born and raised near Nashua, Iowa with his two sisters and brother.

On May 26, 1957, he was united in marriage to JoAnn Janssen.  The couple made their home on a farm northeast of Nashua until they moved to Mason City. Ed trucked for many years throughout north central Iowa. They later relocated to a farm near Britt and Ed started an excavating company where he tore down farms for 35+ years, giving him the nickname the “farm undertaker”.

Ed and JoAnn were snowbirds spending many winters in Arizona, but that didn’t stop Ed from staying busy. Ed was an early riser often meeting buddies for morning coffee. If Ed wasn’t working, he was watching old westerns, although he’d seen every John Wayne film at least a hundred times.

Edward is survived by his children Ronda (Jerry) Francis of Garner, Jeff (Becky) DeGeus of Britt, Brenda (Bryan) Stone of Charles City, and Brian (Lisa) DeGeus of Orlando, Florida; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and sisters Edna (Cliff) Madieros and Mildred (Bruce) Culbertson.

He is preceded in death by his wife JoAnn in September of 2016, son Terry, grandson Weston, step-granddaughter Allison, great-granddaughter Shaley, and brother Raymond.
