Edward Lewis Stupka, 83, of Kanawha, passed away Monday, April 29, 2002, at the Kanawha Nursing Home in Kanawha. Edward, the son of Anton and Christina (Hejlik) Stupka was born near Lawler, Iowa on February 2, 1919. In 1920, he moved with his parents and sister Rose to Wisconsin, where they purchased a farm and farmed there for 15 years.  Ed attended grade school there and high school in Colby where he was active in the band, playing cornet. In 1936, they moved to the Goldfield and Eagle Grove, Iowa area where Edward worked as a farm hand for several farmers until 1940 when he married Fern Vroman of Goldfield. The two were married in the home of Fern's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Vroman of Goldfield by the Rev. Charles Davis of the Goldfield Baptist Church in 1940. Their first y ears of marriage, they worked as tenants for the Glen Thompsons northwest of Goldfield.  Then they farmed for themselves on the Spencer farm northeast of Clarion.  The Stupka's had two sons, Marvin and Wayne. In 1943, they moved to the Keller farm northwest of Clarion, where they farmed until 1960. In 1960, they moved to the Middleton farm northeast of Renwick where they lived until 1973, when Edward worked at Broshar Implement as salesman, and they moved to Kanawha. As Ed's love for farming was still his main interest, he farmed east of Kanawha and his Dad's place north of Garner until the last few years when he worked part time for several farmers.  He and Fern moved to the retirement apartments on West 6th Street in Kanawha. He was reared in the Catholic faith as a child and accepted the LORD while attending the Baptist Church at Goldfield and later joined the Baptist Church in Holmes, Iowa.  He was baptized by Rev. Lloyd Holm. He was very active in church.  He served as a deacon and later received a plaque from the Holmes Baptist Church for over 40 years as senior usher.  Edward loved his church and all his brothers and sisters in the LORD. He was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be missed by all his family and friends. He leavees to mourn his passing a son Marvin and his wife, Mary of Kanawha and a son, Wayne of Kanawha; 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Those who preceded him in death were, Fern his dear wife of 59 years, his brother Frank and his wife, Rose, and his sister Rose Unger and her husband, Harry.
