Obituary


Eldo Nichols, age 93, of Clarion, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2006 at USA Health Care Center, Clarion.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, February 19, 2006 at the First Lutheran Church in Clarion with Pastor Gary Boen officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM Saturday, February 18, 2006 at the Ewing Dugger Helgeson Funeral Home; 602 N. Main Street, Clarion, and one hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Eldo was born January 27, 1913, in Clarion to Irvin and Sophia (Sinn) Nichols. He graduated from Clarion High School in 1931 and remained in the Clarion area his whole life engaged in farming. Eldo married Josephine Anderson February 1, 1940 in Missouri. He grew up in Clarion and farmed east of Clarion, then he moved to a farm near Galt before moving back to a farm east of Clarion where he farmed from 1950 until 1980 when he retired from farming and moved into Clarion. During his retirement he continued to have a big garden, several apple trees, and honeybees, to provide honey, fruit, and vegetables for his family and members of the community. Eldo was an avid hunter, loved to read and tell stories.

Eldo is survived by his wife, Josephine, daughters Joan Lomas and her husband Cliff of Olney, Illinois, Beth Schultz and her husband Paul of Clarion, and Jean Ridenior and her husband Jim of Clarion, and sons Nick Nichols and his wife Elaine of Clarion, Willard Nichols and his wife Carolyn of Pensacola, Florida and Major Steve Nichols and his wife Major Macrina Nichols both currently stationed overseas, and twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Eldo was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Albert and three sisters, Elnora, Estella, and Dorothy and by his son, Keith Nichols.
