Obituary

Betty Schreur, 98, of Kanawha, Iowa went home to be with her Lord on December 27, 2021.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Kanawha Christian Reformed Church, 129 East 3rd Street in Kanawha.

Betty was born April 25, 1923 to Okko and Mary (Gatena) Uken of rural Kanawha.  Betty attended school in Kanawha and Britt. She worked at Rystad’s Store, Farmers State Bank, and the Creamery in Kanawha.

Betty married John Schreur on September 19, 1946. The couple made their home in Kanawha and on the farm near Kanawha.  They farmed in the Kanawha area their entire lives.

Betty was a faithful member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church where she taught Sunday School, catechism, Ladies Aid, Coffee Break, and Calvinettes. She found great joy in serving her precious Savior and Lord.

Betty was smart, stubborn, and tenacious.  She was always busy—riding her bike, baking, doing art projects, and spending time with her grandchildren.  Her grandchildren recall playing board games, word games, and card games as well as catching fireflies and eating ice cream and gummy bears.  Betty was a lifelong learner, animal lover, voracious reader, talented flower arranger, and someone who loved to put together fashionable outfits.  She was creative and artistic in the areas of sewing, needlework, coloring and painting.

Betty is survived by her children Lois of Omaha, Nebraska;  Sheri (Art) Rylaarsdam of Mt Vernon, Washington; Ken (Mary) of Kanawha; Judy (Bob Klein) of Vancouver, Washington; grandchildren Jon (Camilla) Rylaarsdam; Nathan (Kaylee) Rylaarsdam; Sara (Justin) Juarez; Jessica Wood; Kevin Schreur; David Schreur; Daniel Schreur: Andy Schreur; Sharon (Brian) Smies; Shannon Schreur-Klein; adopted granddaughter Mary Nyakoun Khaway; greatgrandchildren Natalie, Daniel and Samantha Smies; Ruby Rylaarsdam; Jack Rylaarsdam; Abraham and Isaiah Oehieng.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband John, a granddaughter Jodi Lyn, her sisters Anna and Martha, and her brothers Harm and Donald.
