Obituary


Elizabeth Marie Haxton, 88, passed away Saturday, April 18, 1998, at the home of her daughter in Mason City, Iowa.

Elizabeth, the daughter of John and Katherine (Kress) Appelhons, was born March 25, 1910, in Rothomel, Russia.  On October 7, 1912, she came to America where her family lived in Minnesota, later they located in Britt.  She was united in marriage with Martin Lichman on September 27, 1927 at the St. Patrick's Church in Britt.  The couple moved to Chicago where John was born.  Following the death of Martin, she and her son returned to Britt.  She was united in marriage with Henry Merle Haxton on December 10, 1934, at Eagle Grove, Iowa.  The couple made their home in Britt.  For the past seven years, Elizabeth has made her home with her daughter Kathy in Mason City.

She was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and the Britt American Legion Auxiliary.  She loved to fish, garden and quilt.

Elizabeth is survived by a daughter, Kathy and her husband, Tom Barlas of Mason City; a son John and wife, Wavel Lichman of Britt; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; a sister Irene and her husband, Darrell Francis of Britt; two brothers: John and his wife, Emma Appelhons of Thompson; Joe and his wife, Donna Appelhons of Britt; sister-in-law Tena Appelhons of Crystal Lake; and a brother-in-law: Lewis Fox of Britt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Martin in 1929 and her husband Merle in 1980, her daughter Mary in 1994, two sisters - Mary Fox and Barbara Jelik and a brother, Jake Appelhons.
