Ella (Greenfield) Janes

Ella Janes, 95, of Britt, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Ella Greenfield Janes was born March 23, 1912, at Kamrar, Iowa in Hamilton County.  The daughter of Arend and Biene (Koop) Greenfield, she was baptized in the Kamrar Presbyterian Church on October 6, 1912.

She lived at Kamrar until she was united in marriage to Veryl Janes on December 24, 1930 at Webster City, Iowa.  They farmed near Williams, Iowa and Blairsburg, Iowa for 10 years and then moved to a farm near Wesley, Iowa where they resided until 1957 when they moved to Britt, Iowa.

She worked at the coffee shop and the cleaners in Britt for 22 years.  She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church at Woden and later transferred her membership to the Britt Christian Reformed Church in Britt. She was active in the church with Ladies Aid, Circle and Coffee Break.  She helped with the soup suppers and bazaars and also delivered the bulletins for quite awhile.  She was a member of the Senior Citizens and enjoyed Congregate Meals at the hospital for many years.  She enjoyed her family and friends, flowers; especially African Violets, and feeding and watching the birds.  She did a lot of crocheting, embroidery and sewing for herself and others.

She is survived by her four children: Willis Janes and wife Phyllis of Britt, Verla Schmidt and husband Jere of Britt, Deloris Ruter and husband Robert of Kanawha and Keith Hanes and wife Sandy of Stuart, Florida.  SHe is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; one sister Maria Lenning of Jewell, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Veryl in 1990; four brothers; five sisters and one great granddaughter in 1984.
