Ella J. (Marker) Gangestad
Ella J. Gangestad, 81, of Clarion, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2022.
Funeral services for Ella Gangestad will be held on Friday, September 9, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Holmes Lutheran Church, 2139 Hancock Avenue, rural Clarion with Pastor George Lautner officiating.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2022 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Ella Jane (Marker) Gangestad, the daughter of John and Dorothy (Pepper) Marker, was born July 2, 1941 in Clarion, Iowa. Ella grew up and graduated from Clarion with the class of 1959.
Ella married her high school sweetheart John Gangestad on September 4, 1959 at the First Lutheran Church in Clarion. The couple moved to the family farm south of Holmes where they raised their four children Jody, Dan, Scott and Jill.
In 1987, Ella opened Hearts and Flowers in Clarion and ran the business for over 20 years. In her free time, Ella loved to read, paint, and doing crossword puzzles. She was an amazing baker and was known for her cakes, chocolate chip cookies and kringla. Ella’s faith was very important to her and was a member of the Holmes Lutheran Church.
She will be remembered for being very kind, gentle and giving.
She is survived by her daughter Jody (Dean) Hamer of Story City, Iowa and children Janet (Maceo) Anderson and Kevin Hamer; daughter-in-law Patty Gangestad of Clarion and children Ryan Gangestad, Grant (Sydney) Gangestad, Logan (Chloe) Gangestad, and Kayla (fiancé Adam Stuart) Gangestad; son Scott (Shelly) Gangestad and children Jeremy Gangestad and Jon Gangestad; daughter Jill (Bob Torkelson) Gangestad of Eagle Grove and children Dylan (Ashley) Bosch, Amanda Bosch, Brandon (Maija Riggert) Bosch and Cassie Bosch; 11 great grandchildren; brother Ed Marker and extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John in 2003, son Dan in 2007 and infant grandson Joshua in 1990.
