Obituary


Elmer "Mike" Christians, 69, passed away Friday, February 4, 1994 at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, East Campus in Mason City, Iowa.

Mike, the son of Nick and Nellie (Beninga) Christians, was born November 27, 1924 on a farm near Kanawha.  Mike received his education in the country schools near the family farm.  Mike was in the tiling business prior to serving with the U.S. Army during WW II. On May 25, 1946 he was united in marriage with Marjorie Goeman at Denver, Colorado.  In 1947, following his discharge he returned to Kanawha and continued in his tiling business and later to farming.

Mike was a life time member of the Wright Christian Reformed CHurch where he was baptized and taught Sunday School.  Mike served on the Christian School Board, the Kanawha Public School Board, and the Coop Oil Board.

Mike's love was in his family and his grandchildren.  Mike enjoyed fishing with family, grandchildren, and his friends.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; a daughter, Marcia and her husband, Gary Harris and their children, Valerie, Jeffrey, Angela of Belmond, Iowa; a daughter Margaret and her husband, Doyce Pringnitz and their children Jeremy, Jody, Justin, Julie; a son, Michael, all of Kanwha, Iowa; six sisters: Mrs. John (Tena) Ruter; Mrs. Heis (Tillie) Verbrugge; Mrs. John (Minnie) Rietema; Mrs. Arthur (Henrietta) Rietema; Mrs. Harold (Nettie) Assink all of Kanawha, Iowa; Mrs. Carroll (Marguerite) Hensel of Stockton, Illinois; two brothers: Ed and his wife, Minnie Christians of Kanawha, Iowa; James and his wife, Mavis Christians of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Herman Christians.
