Elsie Lousie Abbas, 88, of Goldfield, passed away Monday, January 17, 2000 at
the North Care Center in Humboldt, Iowa. She was raised and glorified on
January 17, 2000, and buried for the Resurrection on January 20, 2000. Elsie was
born October 18, 1911 in Erin Township in Hancock County, Britt, Iowa, the
daughter of George and Reka (Blank) Eenhuis. She was educated in the rural
schools of Hancock County. Elsie was united in marriage to George G. Abbas of
Kanawha, Iowa, on October 14, 1933, at the Christian Reformed Church Parsonage
in Kanawha. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Kanawha until 1942,
when they moved to Goldfield, where her husband worked for Standard Oil. In
1957 they began farming in the Goldfield area. After her husband's death in
1969, Elsie continued to live on the farm with her son, Richard. In June of
1999, Elsie moved to Humboldt Homes Apt. #47 in Humboldt. After surgery in late
December, she moved to Humboldt Care Center North. She will be remembered as a
loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She spent most of her life as
a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Kanawha, Iowa. She was a member of
the Golden Hour and the Ladies Aid until the last few years. Elsie is survived
by her three children: Doris Gillespie of Humboldt, Richard Abbas of Goldfield,
and Dona Dornath and her husband, Larry of Gilmore City; five grandchildren:
Brad Gillespie and his wife Kelli and their daughter, Aimee of Osceola, Diane
Gillespie Nicholson and her husband, Mark, and their daughter, Laura of
Oskaloosa, Sarah Dornath of Humboldt, Brenda Dornath of Humboldt, and Doug
Dornath of Forest City. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Reka
Eenhuis, husband George G. Abbas, seven brothers and one sister.
