Elwood O. Anderson, 88, of Iowa Falls, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2002,
at his home in Iowa Falls.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 31, 2002, at First
Lutheran Church in Dows with Pastor Paul Thompson officiating. Burial will take
place in the Otis Grove Cemetery in rural Dows.
Elwood Orion Anderson was born on September 15, 1913 at the family farm in
Franklin County to parents Siguard and Martha (Fryslie) Anderson. He attended
school in Dows for a short time before the family moved to Belmond. Elwood
graduated from Belmond High School in 1932. Following graduation, he worked for
the Evans' on their farm south of Dows.
On June 20, 1940, Elwood was united in marriage to Velois Georgia Nelson in
Coulter. To this union, two children were born, Duan and Michael. The family
made their home on a farm northwest of Popejoy until the early 1950s when they
moved to their homestead in rural Iowa Falls. In 1996, the coulter moved into
Iowa Falls and two years later in 1998, Velois passed away.
For Elwood, farming was a lifetime full of dedication. He truly loved his farm
and he was blessed to be able to work the land for as long as he did. He was
also a 4-H leader and an avid horseshoe player, which both stemmed from his
love of farming. Elwood was a member of the First Lutheran Church where he had
been both the president of the church board and he was a member of the choir; he
was a former Popejoy school board member; and he was a former member of the
Franklin County ASCS Committee.
Survivors include two sons Duan Anderson and wife LaVonne of Iowa Falls and
Michael Anderson and wife Carol of Loogootee, Indiana; 8 grandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren; two sisters Alma (Harley) Gardalen of Popejoy and Leona
