Obituary


Emmett ‘Lee’ Kahl, 49, of Hampton, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond with Pastor Leila Blackburn officiating.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond and will continue one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Lee was born on November 24, 1969 in Benton, Illinois, the son of Andy B. and Debra Wilkerson. He grew up in Benton and graduated from Benton High School in 1988. While in high school, Lee was involved in jazz band, where he played the trumpet. He also wrote articles for the local newspaper. After high school, Lee attended community college and earned his nursing degree. He worked as a nurse, paramedic, truck driver, insurance claims specialist and medical coder, and sales representative.

On November 6, 2006, Lee married his soulmate, Jeanne Modderman, in a small ceremony in Las Vegas. The couple made their home in Arizona, before moving to Iowa to be near their grandchildren. Lee and Jeanne loved spending their time together, going to movies and enjoying their fur babies, children and grandchildren.

Lee enjoyed playing video games in his free time and dabbling in anything electronics. He loved to cook and go shopping, especially for shoes and watches. He was also a member of the Masons.

Lee is survived by his best friend and true love, Jeanne, of Hampton; children Jeremy Allen and Jessie Johnson of the Latimer area; grandchildren Braelynn, Emerson, Abel, Chimaira, Berklei, and Sullivyn; mother Debra (Jeff) Sachs of Arizona; brother Steven (Martha) Wilkerson of Arizona; niece and nephew Andrea and Andrew; Jeanne’s parents Roger and Sharon Modderman of Belmond; Jeanne’s siblings Kelle (Tim) Kelley of Belmond, Jon Modderman of Klemme, and Mark (Linda) Modderman; and numerous other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Andy B. Wilkerson, and his Granny and Poppy.
