Ethel Anne Swyter, 84, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 1997, at the Kanawha
Community Home in Kanawha, Iowa.
Ethel, the daughter of Peter and Anne (Larsen) Peterson, was born December 10,
1912, in Ulster Park, New York. Some years later the family moved to Ossining,
New York. In high school she majored in commercial subjects. She worked in New
York City as a secretary to the President of a large engineering and
manufacturing company for several years. She was an active church member in
Ossining and later in the Calvary Baptist Church in New York City.
On March 12, 1966, she was united in marriage with Gerald L. Swyter at the First
Baptist Church of Tarrytown, New York. For twelve years they made their home on
a farm near Kanawha and then retired in Kanawha.
Ethel was a member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church and of the Ladies
Aid. For year she was active in Stonecraft Bible Studies.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, a brother and his
wife, a sister, two brothers-in-law, also by her father-in-law & mother-in-law,
a sister-in-law and two step great-grandsons.
Ethel is survived by her husband, Gerald; two step-sons: Marvin and his wife,
Patsy of Ft. Madison, Iowa, and Gary and his wife, Barbara of San Dimas,
California; five step-grandchildren; twelve step-great-grandchildren; one
sister, Ruth Sasser of Prescott, Arizona; one niece, Ruth Yocum; four nephews
and a host of family and friends.
