Obituary

Ethel Grace Hanson, 88, of Britt, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2004, at the Westview Care Center in Britt, where she has been a resident since 1997.

Ethel, the daughter of Ellis and Lula (Clausen) McCurry was born April 19, 1915, at Renwick, Iowa.  She received her education in the Renwick School system, graduating from High School in 1933.  She was united in marriage with Don L. Hanson on November 9, 1933, in Clarion, Iowa.  To this union two sons were born, Keith Don and Duane Robert.  The couple lived in the Eagle Grove and Renwick areas before moving to Kanawha in 1940 and later to Britt in 1942.  Ehtel worked as a cook in the Tip Top Cafe in Britt for several years and then as a check out clerk at the Britt Community Foods/Britt Super Valu for 30 years from 1956 to 1986, at which time she retired.

The family joined the First Lutheran Church in 1945, where Ethel took an active part in Sunday School, Ladies Aid and Circle.  Mrs. Hanson had many hobbies, which include gardening, knitting, crocheting and cooking.  She was known as an excellent cook and baker.  She loved her grandchildren and spent as much time as possible with them.  She was fortunate to have all four of her grandchildren grow up in Britt, where she took an avid interest in their lives and in their activities.  She also played an important role in the lives of several of her great grandchildren.

Ethel is survived by her two sons: Keith and wife Dianne and Duane and wife Brenda all of Britt; four grandchildren: Leslie Monson and husband Larry of Britt, Kristine Given of Glencoe, Minnesota, Lynne Severy of Kewaunee, Wisconsin, Kent Hanson and wife Peggy of Osage, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren; one sister Edna Brown of Ames, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Don in 1979, her parents, one brother and one great grandson.
