Obituary
Ethelyn Rasmussen, age 92, of Kanawha passed away Thursday, June 5, 2008 at the Kanawha Community Home in Kanawha.
Funeral services for Ethelyn Rasmussen will be held on Monday, June 9, 2008 at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church in Kanawha with Rev. Cynthia Morrison officiating. Burial will take place at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.
Visitation for Ethelyn Rasmussen will be held Sunday, June 8, 2008 from 3 to 5 pm at Ewing Funeral Home in Kanawha and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Ethelyn Winnifred Rasmussen, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Espe) Holm, was born in Wright County, Iowa on the family farm. She attended school in the Kanawha Community School District graduating from Kanawha High School.
Ethelyn was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John’s Church in rural Kanawha. She joined the Methodist religion shortly after her marriage.
Ethelyn was united in marriage to Leonard “Lang” Rasmussen on July 17, 1935 at the Methodist Church in Indianola, Iowa. The couple lived in Pomeroy, Iowa and later moved to Kanawha where Lang managed the Kanawha Creamery and Ethelyn was employed by the United States Postal Service for eighteen and half years. She served as a clerk for eight and half years, and ten years as the first female Postmaster in Kanawha. Ethelyn also belonged to the National League of Postmasters.
Ethelyn was a member of the United Methodist Church in Kanawha where she was very active in the UMW and Bible study class. Ethelyn was an avid bowler and loved playing bridge with the two clubs she had joined. She was very fond of people and enjoyed spending time with her many friends.
Ethelyn is survived by her children: Ron (Connie) Rasmussen of Charles City, Bob (Bette) Rasmussen of Riceville, Suzanne (Bob) Klein of Fulda, Minnesota and Jack (Lisa) Rasmussen of Kanawha; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; brother Bob (Julie) Holm of California; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lang Rasmussen; granddaughter Shauna Eekhoff; two great grandchildren; three sisters; and two brothers.
Family suggest memorial contributions be made to United Methodist Church in Kanawha.
