Evelyn R. (Young) Pavelka

Evelyn R. (Young) Pavelka, 87, of Britt passed away Sunday, January 24, 2016, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Mass of Christian Burial for Evelyn Pavelka will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2016, at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 139 3^rd Street South East in Britt with  concelebrants Fr. Paul Lippstock and Fr. Jim Dubert.  Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Britt. 

Visitation for Evelyn Pavelka will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt. A Rosary will be said at 7:00 PM by Catholic Daughters of the Americas.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.   

Evelyn Rose Pavelka, the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Klesel) Young was born November 24, 1928 on a farm in Garner.  She graduated from the Garner High School in 1946.

On November 12, 1947 Evelyn was united in marriage with James F. Pavelka at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner.  They first rented a farm in Garner and later moved to a farm southeast of Britt where they retired from farming in 1983.  Evelyn worked in Stitchcraft at Winnebago on the sewing line from 1981 – 1987.  After the passing of her husband in May of 1995 she moved into the town of Britt.

Evelyn was a member of the St. Patricks Catholic Church in Britt, the Rosary Society, Home Makers Club and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.   She was an Avon representative during the 1970’s.

Evelyn’s hobbies included flower and vegetable gardening, canning and sewing.  She was a wonderful cook and baker and many people enjoyed the fruits of her talents.  She enjoyed playing in several card clubs including her family card parties and the Silver Stars.

Evelyn is survived by her seven children: Kathy (Mike) Kerns of Burnsville, Minnesota, Bob (Connie) Pavelka of Clear Lake, Jerry Pavelka of Britt, Marilyn (Joe) Larson of Springfield, Missouri, Alvin Pavelka of Prescott, Arizona, Allen (Lisa) Pavelka of Las Vegas, Nevada and Gene (Patsy) Pavelka of Britt; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sisters Dorothy Huinker of Garner, Lorraine Chizek of Britt, and brother Paul (Mag) Young of Garner, many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James, a sister Marg Becker and brother Don Young.

Evelyn was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be dearly missed by her families and friends.
