Obituary


Evelyn Nelson, (Mrs. Ernest), passed away on April, 16, 1996, at her home in Kanawha.  She was born in Kanawha on February 22, 1911, and was educated in the Kanawha schools.

On December 18, 1930, Evelyn married Ernest H. Nelson, in Rowan, Iowa, in a double wedding ceremony with Jessie and Herb Mewes.

During Evelyn's lifetime, she was employed by J.U. Johnson, and was an accountant for City Meat Marker, E.H. Nelson Implements, Custom Farm Services and the Grethen House.

Mrs. Nelson was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church and was active in UMC Women's Society for over 60 years.  Evelyn was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge and Past Noble Grands.

Evelyn's interest during her life were reading, raising flowers and knitting, but the love of her life was her family and she kept in close touch with every family member until the end.

Mrs. Nelson was the  mother of Ronald, who died in infancy, Bonnie Wehrspan of Algona, Iowa, and Sandra Stroner of Chicago, Illinois.  Her grandchildren are Mark Mullins of Phoenix, Arizona, Michele Mullins Penning of Garner, Iowa, Susan Stroner Williams of Farmington, CT, Elizabeth Stroner and Katherine Stroner, both of Chicago, Illinois.  Great-grandchildren are Nicholas, Maxwell and Justin Williams and Brooke Michaela Penning.

Preceding Evelyn in death were her parents, Mary and Peter Van Dusseldorp, her husband, Ernest and son Ronald. Also preceding her were five sisters, Martha, Theona, Minnie, Irene, and Nellie and four brothers, Jake, Neil, Engle and Leonard.

Evelyn is survived by Bonnie and her husband, Ken Wherspan, Sandra and her husband, Alan Stroner, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as sisters-in-law, many nieces and nphews and many beloved lifelong friends.
