Obituary


Fern Hoskinson, 87, of Britt, passed away Friday, December 2, 2011, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Funeral services for Fern Hoskinson will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at 1:30 PM at the Bethel Baptist Church in Britt with Pastor Greg Baum officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 5, 2011, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West, in Britt and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Fern Powers was born on Feb. 23, 1924 in Forest Township, Winnebago County to Leon and Millie (Sanquist) Powers.  Her Mother died when Fern was 11 years old and Fern made her home with Uncle George Sanquist, his wife and children.  Fern graduated from Corning High school in 1942.

Fern married Cliff Hoskinson on August 23, 1942 in Albany, Missouri.  Cliff joined the Army and Fern contributed to the war effort in Omaha in the "performance of essential war work."   To this union two daughters were born: Nancy and Jannean.

Through the years Fern primarily a wife and Mother but she was employed at Farmers Bank and Trust in Crystal Lake.  She also worked at Winnebago, Crystal Lake school as a cook, and she was the "Grandma" of Grandma's Dairy Sweet.

Fern is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Arnie) Eden of Woden, and Jannean (Dean) Eliason of Crystal Lake; her grandchildren, Gene and Tracie Eden of Woden, Nancy and Willie Knipfel of Hampton, Tom and Dawn Davidson of Austin, Minnesota, Mandy Folkerts of Woden, and Matt and Heather Brandt of Woden; great-grandchildren, Caleb Eden, Riley Eden, Cooper Eden, Trevor Eden, Cassidy Davidson, Allie Davidson, Roddessa Rocky Knipfel, Shanae Groesbeck, Elie Eden, Hunter Brandt, and Levi Brandt.

Fern is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Cliff, her sister Lois Bowerman, her brother Lyle Powers, and great-grandchildren Tina and Britney Knipfel.

As Fern's family, we appreciated the good care Fern received at Westview Care Center and at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital.  Thank You.
