Ferne (Palmer) Severns went to be with the Lord on April 28, 2012. She was born on the family farm northwest of Renwick on September 10, 1910. She was the oldest and the only daughter of Stephen Palmer and Augusta (Thompson) Palmer.

She was always a great supporter of education and after high school she went to Iowa State Teachers College (currently UNI) in Cedar Falls and trained to be a teacher. She taught at a country school near Renwick until she married Melvin Severns and they began farming southwest of Britt.

Ferne enjoyed cooking and was active in her community and church. She was a member of the Nota Bena club, Eastern Star and she enjoyed gardening and raising beautiful flowers. She and Melvin retired from farming in 1975. They had always enjoyed having horses and working with cattle so they move to Madill Oklahoma and bought a ranchette where they raised pure bred cattle and enjoyed their horses.

When Melvin passed away, Ferne returned to Britt and continued to enjoy her retirement there until she moved to Mason City in April of 2007 and lived at Kentucky Ridge Assisted Living. She moved to Good Shepherd Health Center in May of 2010. She always had a positive attitude and a great smile.

Ferne will be missed by her many nieces, nephews relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Donald and John Palmer and her husband Melvin.
