Obituary


Florence Nellie (Abbas) Ruter, 84, of Kanawha passed away Saturday, May 26, 2007 at the Belmond Medical Center in Belmond

Funeral services for Florence Ruter will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church in Kanawha with Pastor Chuck Walton officiating.  Burial will be in Amsterdam Township Cemetery near Kanawha.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2007 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel in Kanawha and one hour prior to services at the church.

Florence, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Freerkson) Abbas, was born September 23, 1922 in Kanawha, Iowa.  She graduated from Kanawha High School.

Florence was united in marriage with Ben Ruter on December 25, 1941 at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church Parsonage with the late Rev. D.H. Plesscher officiating.  The couple farmed southeast of Kanawha for 44 years before retiring in 1986.  Following their retirement, they moved into Kanawha where she has since resided.

Florence was a devoted mother to her son Harvey, her daughter-in-law Deb and their four children Jordon, Amanda, Morgan and Benjamin.  She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family.  She loved watching “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” while doing word search.  Florence also took great joy in reading the Bible to her family and playing the piano for them.  She was a devoted member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church and Ladies Aid.

Florence is survived by her son Harvey and his wife Deb of Kanawha; four grandchildren:  Jordon, Amanda, Morgan and Benjamin; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents George and Elizabeth Abbas; her husband, Ben; two brothers: Bernard and George; and four sisters: Tillie, Allie, Cora and Fannie.
