Francis Donald Stumpf was born November 12, 1929 to Frank and Augusta (Peterson) Stumpf.  He grew up on the family farm near Fonda, and following his formal education, he helped his parents with the farming.

Francis served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and following his discharge, he moved to Clarion where he worked on a construction crew, building grain elevators.

Francis was united in marriage to Alice Reyna at St. John’s Catholic Church on July 5, 1957.  To this union, two children were born.

Francis and Alice made their home in Clarion, and Francis continued to work construction until he began working for the City of Clarion, a position he held for 30 years.  Following his retirement from the city, Francis worked at the Wright County Landfill, operating the scale up until the time of his death.

Francis also served as a member of the Clarion City Council for 15 years, and was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church.  He was a member of the American Legion and VFW branches, and marched in the Festival in the Park parade with the color guard many times.

Francis enjoyed gardening, bowling, hunting and trapping, playing cards, watching horse races and playing the lottery.  He once won $50,000.

Most of all, he loved his family, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Francis is survived by his children, Teresa (Scott) Nelsen and Dick (Mary) Stumpf, all of Clarion; grandchildren TJ (Jen) Stumpf and their son Jaxon, of Clarion, Allie Eyanson of Waterloo, Jen (Joe) Sheehan and their son JJ of Clarion, and Jason Stumpf of Clarion; sister Katherine Ralston of Boise, Idaho, and brothers Kenny Stumpf of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Paul (Shirley) Stumpf of Fonda.
