Francis "Fran" Rohrer, 88, of Eagle Grove passed away Friday, September 5, 2014
at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion.
A Memorial Mass for Francis Rohrer will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday,
September 10, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 204 South Jackson Avenue in
Eagle Grove, with Father Jerry Blake and Reverend Monsignor Patrick Gaalaas
concelebrating.
Visitation for Francis Rohrer will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 from
5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, with a Scriptural Wake service beginning at 7:00 PM at Ewing
Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion. Visitation will continue one
hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday.
Francis Bernard Rohrer was born on June 11, 1926 in Woolstock, Iowa to Harold
and Della (Hilpipre) Rohrer.
Fran graduated from Woolstock High School at the age of 16. He continued to
help his father farm until the age of 18, when he began his career at M & M
Livestock Company, where he retired at the age of 65. Following retirement,
Fran sold monuments with Sunburst Memorials for 20 years.
Fran enjoyed spending time in nature, traveling, was an avid "treasure" hunter,
and researching family genealogy. His favorite pastime of all was spending time
with family and friends. He was always up for a good game of Pitch.
He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove, where
he was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus.
Fran is survived by his children, Francine (Larry) McClelland of Clear Lake,
Greg (Suzanne) Rohrer of Eagle Grove, Steven (Gail) Rohrer of Oxford, Arkansas,
Lance Rohrer of Kua'i, Hawaii, and Mitch Rohrer of Mason City; 13 grandchildren;
17 great-grandchildren; 1 sister and 4 brothers; along with numerous nieces and
nephews, other relatives and friends.
Fran was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, an infant brother, and an
infant granddaughter.
