Obituary


Fredric Merle Rasmussen, 47, passed away Thursday, June 22, 1995 at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Fredric, the son of Margaret Stark Rasmussen and Merle Rasmussen was born April 19, 1948 at Oakland, California.  Fredric moved to Wesley with his family and then moved to Winnebago, Minnesota when he was two years old. At ten years of age, they moved back to a farm northeast of Wesley.  Fredric graduated from Britt High School in 1966.  He then attended NIACC for a year before entering the U.S. Navy in 1967 where he served for eight years active duty, then in the Navy Reserves.  Fredric graduated from Iowa State University in 1978 with a degree in agri-business.  He worked as an ag-news reporter at a radio station at Clinton, Iowa, for about a year before returning to the family farm to build a confined hog operation.  After the sale of the family farm, Fred returned to the Navy in 1987.  His hard work and dedication earned him many medals and awards, climaxing when he was commissioned as Chief Warrant Officer on March 2, 1992.  He received a medical discharge on June 1, 1993, when he then returned to Britt to live.  Fred was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wesley, the American Legion of Britt and Disabled American Veterans.

Fredric is survived by his mother, Peg Rasmussen of Britt; his father, Merle Rasmussen of Evergreen, Colorado; his children, Prescott and Alexandria of Chesapeake, Virginia; three sisters: Linda Nieman and her husband, Marvin of Britt; Iowa; JoAnn Eastvold of Bismark, North Dakota; Donna Gietl of Lakewood, Colorado; three nieces, four nephews and numerous relatives.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, two aunts and two uncles.
