Gary Bachman, 79, of Garner, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2025 at his home.
Gary’s family is hosting a Celebration of Life from 2:00 PM- 6:00 PM on Monday, September 8, 2025 at Garner VFW Post 5515, 315 Center Avenue in Garner.
Gary Bachman was born on April 12, 1946, at home on a farm near Klemme to Alvin and Gladys (Jackson) Bachman. Gary attended Klemme schools through the 8th grade until his family later moved to a farm north of Britt, where he graduated from high school.
Following graduation, Gary pursued barber college in Webster City. He worked as a barber in Kanawha and Armstrong before settling in Garner, where he made his home. Gary was united in marriage to Carol Weaver. To this union, daughter Carrie was born. They later divorced in 1981. Gary was employed at Winnebago Industries, dedicating 28 years of service there.
From a young age, Gary had a deep love for horses. By the age of four, he was already riding his pony, Prince, even taking part in the Hobo Day parade in Britt. Throughout his life, he continued to buy, trade, train, and raise horses—a true lifelong passion.
Gary also enjoyed many hobbies and interests. He loved fishing, playing pool, and trapping wildlife on his property. He was fond of cars and especially loved riding motorcycles.
Gary is survived by his daughter Carrie (Sidney) Garr of Davenport; son Tim Olson of Estherville; grandchildren Jonathon Bachman of Cedar Falls, Jessica Bachman of Omaha, Nebraska, Jordan Garr of Chicago, Illinois, Anya Olson of Estherville and Mia Olson of Estherville; great-grandchildren Franky Hearn, Stella Garr, and Rose Garr; sister Patty Bachman of Palm Coast, Florida; sister-in-law Mary Bachman of Ponca, Nebraska; partner of 21 years Viona Sokoloski; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Gladys Bachman; and brother Randy Bachman.
