Gary D. Meyer, 81, of Belmond passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond. Graveside Services for Gary Meyer will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the Belmond Cemetery with Pastor Doug Love officiating. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Monday, August 27, 2018 from 5:30 PM until 8:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond. Gary Darwin, son of Theodore and Margaret (Wagner) Meyer, was born on February 8, 1937 in rural Belmond. Gary graduated from Belmond High School with the class of 1956. After high school, Gary attended Waldorf College. At the age of 16, Gary started building homes with his father. Gary and his brother, Roger, eventually owned the family business, Meyer Brothers Construction. After almost 50 years of building houses in the local area, Gary built his last house and retired in 2002. On May 2, 1959, Gary was united in marriage to Mardell Zeigler at the Kanawha Methodist Church. The couple made their home in rural Belmond and was blessed with three sons. Gary liked to keep busy with various farm projects and taking care of the animals on the farm. Over the years, Gary enjoyed woodworking, including making grandfather clocks for each of his sons and grandsons and grandmother clocks for his granddaughters. Gary and Mardell loved watching their grandchildren's sporting events and activities they were involved in. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Gary was man of God and his faith was very important to him. Gary is survived by his wife Mardell of Belmond; three sons Bruce (Robin) Meyer of Rowan, Craig (Mary) Meyer of Lake Villa, Illinois, Mike (Cindy) Meyer of Clear Lake; seven grandchildren Ginny (Tate) Carter, Jeff (Katie) Meyer, Eric (Amanda) Meyer, Kelly Meyer, Kevin Meyer, Miranda Meyer, Kaley Meyer; four great-grandchildren Mason Carter, Jackson Carter, Macy Meyer, and Weston Meyer; seven siblings Alfred (Maxine) Meyer of Lake Arthur, Louisiana, Vernon (Carolyn) Meyer of West Lake, Louisiana, Beverly (Vernon) Hulsing of Mason City, Roger (Linda) Meyer of Goodell, Richard (Loree) Meyer of Sulphur, Louisiana, Fern (Mark) Spellmeyer of Clarion, and Marjorie (Stan) Pearson of Waukee; Mardell's siblings Hazel, Lyle, Joan, David, and Merlin; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers-in-law Jim, Wayne, and Gene.
