George "Junior" Dockwell, 91, of Belmond, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2020 at MercyOne North Iowa in Mason City. Funeral services for George Dockwell will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 10:30 AM at the Belmond United Methodist Church, 1031 1st Street South East in Belmond, with Pastor Leila Blackburn officiating. Burial will take place at the Graceland Cemetery in Rowan. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 2, 2020 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Belmond United Methodist Church, Iowa Specialty Hospital, or to the donor's choice. George J., son of George and Marie (Jacobsen) Dockwell, was born on June 15, 1929 in Dows, Iowa. George grew up on a farm in between Coulter and Dows. He attended school in Rowan and graduated in 1947. On November 21, 1948, George was united in marriage to Bertha Retleff near Rowan. George and Bertha farmed near Coulter, Rowan, and Riceville. They moved to Belmond in 1965. George worked at Packard Electric for over 25 years before he retired in 1992. On July 3, 2005, George was united in marriage to Dona Cleveland in Belmond. They made their home in Belmond. George was a jack of all trades and could figure out how to fix anything. George and Bertha traveled many states and spent time in Texas during the winter. George and Bertha loved watching old folk country music shows in Avoca, Iowa. George enjoyed wood working projects, including angels and birdhouses. George and Dona continued going to Texas during the winters and loved to play shuffle board and card games with friends. George is survived by his wife Dona of Belmond; two sons Kim (Linda) Dockwell of Ventura and David Dockwell (special friend Lisa) of Kingman, Arizona; three step-sons Dan (Jodie) Cleveland of Wheaton, Illinois, Dave (Terra) Cleveland of Indianola, and Dana (Laurie) Cleveland of Des Moines; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister Gladys Andershok of Fort Collins, Colorado; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by wife Bertha in 2004; daughter Vickie Dockwell in 2007; parents; and six siblings.
