Obituary


George E. Drabek, 75, passed away Saturday, July 3, 1999, at North Iowa Mercy Health Center in Mason City, Iowa.

George, the son of James and Frances (Wellik) Drabek, was born at home in rural Duncan on October 20, 1923/  He went to country school in Garfield Township.

He worked with his dad and brothers for Drabek & Sons Construction, for several years before serving in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Tekesta during World War II.  Following his discharge in June of 1946 he returned to work with his father in the construction business before going on to work for Curries Manufacturing for 21 years until his retirement in 1985.

He was united in marriage with Edith Holck on October 14, 1947, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan, Iowa.  The couple reside in the Duncan area all their married life.  George was also know as the "Honorary Mayor" of Duncan.

George was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, American Legion in Britt, and the Catholic Workman Branch #51 of Duncan.  He enjoyed his retirement doing woodworking, being outside, playing his accordion, and especially being with his family.

He is survived by his Edith and eight children: Rita and husband Terry Norstrud of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Joyce and husband Jerry Uhlenhake of Orlando, Florida, Jeanette and husband Don Priebe of Mason City, Iowa, Dennis and wife Pat of Garner, Iowa, Vivian and husband Kenny Sankey of Pensacola, Florida, Pauline Goll of Garner, Iowa, Rosemary and husband Brent Weaver of Garner, Iowa, Denise and husband Rick Sankey of Garner, Iowa; 20 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters: Marie Hejlik of Rockwell and Clara Malek and husband Ernie of Britt, Iowa; three brothers: Jim and wife Vera of Des Moines, Iowa, Tom and wife Elaine of Britt, Iowa and Bill of Madison, Wisconsin.

George is preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother James, Jr., two sisters: Rose Ward and Helen Townsend, two brothers: Frank and Raymond Drabek.
