Obituary


George Henry Weiner, age 88, of Clarion, passed away on Friday June 4, 2004 at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion.

George Henry Weiner, son of Henry and Lena (Miller) Weiner, was born March 12, 1916 in rural Geneva, Iowa.  He attended school at Geneva and lived in the area during his youth doing farm labor.

On November 3, 1935, he married Belva Maxine Coats of Clarion.  They made their home in the Clarion area until moving to San Diego, CA in 1950.  In 1953 they returned to Iowa for their remaining years.  George and Belva moved to The Meadows in 1995 where they lived until Belva’s passing on March 10, 1998.  George continued to live there until his recent passing.

George enlisted in the U.S. Navy on August 30, 1942 and served during WWII until his discharge on October 27, 1945.  He was employed by the Chicago Great Western Railroad as a fireman and engineer from 1945 until 1966, and for the Chicago Rock Island Railroad from 1966 until he retired in 1980.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #246, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and the Clarion Church of Christ.

George is survived by his daughter, Lonnie Hough and her husband Daniel of Roach, MO; four grandsons, Kirk Simons and his wife Kristi of Eagle Grove, Kyle Simons of Pleasantville, Kevin Simons of Clarion and Brandon Hough and his wife Melissa of Centralia, MO; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Jorgene Bourgart on February 14, 2004; two sisters, Annie and Leola; and two brothers, Fred and Claus.
