George Samuel Peterson, 97, of Clarion, passed away Friday, February 25, 2005,
at the USA Health Care Center in Clarion.
Funeral services for George Peterson will be at 1:30 PM Tuesday, March 1, 2005
at the Holmes Baptist Church in Holmes, Iowa with Pastor Patrick Odle
officiating.
Visitation for George Peterson will be held on Monday, February 28, 2005, from
5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Ewing Dugger Helgeson Funeral Home, 602 North Main
Street, Clarion, IA and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
George Samuel Peterson was born on December 19, 1907 in Goldfield, Iowa to Nels
Peter and Frederikke (Madison) Peterson. He attended school in Goldfield,
graduating in 1926. On February 19, 1930 George was united in marriage to Edna
Ross in Humboldt County. To this union 1 son was born.
The couple moved to the Peterson farm west of Goldfield where George helped his
father farm from 1930 to 1947 trying to save the family farm during the
depression. In 1947 George and Edna moved to their farm west of Clarion where
they farmed for over 40 years.
George took care of Edna at home for many years until she moved to the Nursing
Home in Clarion, where she passed away on February 3, 1994. He remained on the
farm for a few more years before moving to the Meadows. He lived at the Meadows
for 6 years, was in extended care at the hospital for 2 years and finally moved
to USA Healthcare in December of 2004.
George was a member of the Holmes Baptist Church and was named an Honorary
Deacon. He accepted Christ as his savior at the age of 13.
George enjoyed fishing, spending time with his grandchildren and
great-grandchildren, getting his hands dirty and loved to garden.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Morris and his wife DiAnn of
Clarion; granddaughter, Sherry Peterson of Clarion; two grandsons, Jerry his
wife Cindy and their children, Jeffrey and Vance all of Milford, Terry of
Clarion, his children Ted Peterson of Clovis, CA and Jacob Peterson of Clarion;
brother, Clarence Peterson of Clarion; brother-in-law, Carroll Spangler of Eagle
Grove; and sister-in-law, Bertha Hinton of Centerville.
George was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edna in 1994; 4 brothers,
Joe, Bill, Reuben, Lawrence; and 2 sisters, Ruth and Edith.
