George Schreur, age 93, passed away on Friday, April 24, 1998, at the home of
his son Robert and Char Schreur, Kanawha, Ia.
George, the son of Bert and Reka (Siemens) Schreur, was born October 31, 1904
near Kanawha. He attended country schools and worked for area farmers. Later,
he began farming and then on April 6, 1938, he was united in marriage to Anna
Uken. The couple farmed together in the Klemme and then Kanawha areas, where
they made their home until his wife Anna passed away on March 22, 1995. At that
time, George went to live with his two children: Ruth and Larry, and Robert and
Char. George enjoyed singing with his brothers, gardening and spending time
with his family. He was a member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church.
Survivors include his daughter Ruth and her husband, Larry Dirksen of Buffalo
Center, IA, and their children, David and Karen Dirksen, Susan and Bruce Vriezen
and Mike Dirksen; his son, Robert and his wife, Char Schreur of Kanawha, IA and
their children, Tim and Diane Schreur, Nate, Dan and Aaron; six
great-grandchildren: Thomas, Nathaniel, Laura, Philip, Timothy, and Melissa; one
sister, Helen and her husband, George Eekhoff, Kanawha, IA; two brothers: Bill
and his wife, Maylene Schreur, Kanawha, IA, and Herm and his wife, Edna Schruer,
Lynden, Washington; three sisters-in-law: Betty Schreur, Kanawha, IA, Martha
Eekhoff, Wellsburg, IA, and Thressa Uken, Outlook, Washington; one
brother-in-law: Harm and his wife, Ann Uken of Kanawha, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Anna, three brothers: Willem,
Garrett, and John Schreur; two sisters: Jenny and Mary Schreur; one
sister-in-law: Zelda Schreur; two brothers-in-law: Donald Uken and Edward
Eekhoff.
