George E. Schuler, 87 of Dows passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at St.
Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
Funeral services for George Schuler will be held Saturday, January 16, 2021 at
10:00 AM at Morgan Bradford United Methodist Church, 569 100th Street in Dows
with Reverend Erling Shultz officiating. Burial will take place at Fairview
Cemetery in Dows.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 15, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the
Dows Community Center, 119 East Ellsworth in Dows.
Due to current regulations, face masks are required and social distancing
measures are encouraged.
He was born August 5, 1933 to George Arthur and Mona Amelia (Meyer) Schuler in
Hansell, IA. George graduated from Geneva High School, Geneva, IA. He was
united in marriage to Lois Marjorie Sherer on November 30, 1955 at the Little
Brown Church, Nashua, IA.
He worked for 3 different farmers in the Hampton and Dows area for 23 years.
Then in 1978 moved into town at Dows and started working for the IA State DOT
maintenance department until retirement in July 1998.
He loved camping, fishing, hunting, chopping wood, gardening and yard work. He
also loved playing cards, dominoes, cribbage, reading & jigsaw puzzles. Most of
all he loved spending time with his family and friends. He never met a stranger
and was the charmer of babies everywhere. He was a gentle man whose word was his
bond. He also was a man of few words but as honest and respectful as the day is
long.
George is survived by his wife Lois and children Jolene (Charlie) Cronin, Glenn
(Bev) Schuler, Rhonda (Brad) Lawson, Rodney (Nancy) Schuler, Becky (Rick) Wilson
& Barry (Marcia) Schuler, 18 grandchildren & 23 great-grandchildren, brother
Earl (Guyula) Schuler , sister-in-law Luella Schuler and many nieces and
nephews. He touched their lives as well.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Evelyn Marie, nephews
George Alvin and Michael Allen Plendl, brother Warren Schuler & sister Ardeth
Plendl.
