Obituary

George T. Simpson, age 94, of Belmond, passed away Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

George, son of George T. and Alma Carlson Simpson, was born on June 29, 1922, in Estherville, Iowa. George attended school in Estherville, Iowa. He took over his family farm after finishing the 8th grade due to his father’s passing.
On July 3, 1943, George was united in marriage to Florence Amundson, Estherville, Iowa. Together they farmed near Terrill, Iowa. The couple moved to the Belmond and Rowan area in 1962 where they continued to farm for twenty years. George also drove truck for Warren Transport hauling farm machinery until he retired.
He enjoyed farming, cutting iron, working in his shed after retirement, playing cards and pool with family, and sun bathing during the hot summer days.
He was known for his ability to crack jokes and his unique sense of humor.
He and Florence spent time traveling and seeing the country while he was trucking. More often than not, he kept himself busy with his favorite activities and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
George is survived by his four children, Donna Nelson of Denver, CO, Bonnie Stroud of Belmond, twins LaVonne Reed of Rowan, and Leslie Simpson of Rowan; three grandchildren, Jacqueline and Mark Loats of Belmond, Erik and Pam Nelson of Atlanta, GA, Kristin Nelson-Dorrance of Aurora, CO; six great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Mindy, and Aimee Loats, Haley and Tyler Dorrance and Austin Nelson; good companion, Margaret Hellman; and many nieces and one nephew.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Alma; wife, Florence; sister, Mary; and son-in-law, Jim Stroud.
