Obituary


Gerald Clark Meyer, 72, of Britt, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016 at his home in Britt after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Funeral services for Gerald Meyer will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation for Gerald Meyer will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt.

Gerald was born February 22, 1944 to Melvin and Ruth (Clark) Meyer in Forest City. He attended the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs and graduated in 1962. During his attendance there, Gerald began dating Kathryn Billings. The couple was married on December 30, 1962 at the Britt Lutheran Church and made their home in Britt.

Gerald worked as a welder at Marting Manufacturing in Britt for 39 years and 11 months. He also was a successful sheep farmer, having raised Columbia sheep for several years.

Gerald was a longtime member of the Mascia Deaf Club in Mason City and the Iowa Deaf Campers. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his ability to make others laugh and for being able to put others at ease during difficult situations.

Gerald was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His devout faith in Jesus Christ was central to his life. He recently told his family “I have faith in Jesus and I’m ready to go home.”

Gerald is survived by his children, Duane and his wife Dixie of Iowa City, Joseph and his wife Julie of Columbus, Nebraska and daughter Patty of Tempe, Arizona; nine grandchildren; his brother Herman Meyer and his wife Janelle of Mason City, along with numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Kathryn in 2012 and an infant sister Cynthia Meyer in 1955.
