Obituary


Gerald ‘Jerry’ E. Bailey, 68, of Belmond, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at MercyOne North Iowa Hospice in Mason City.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2019 from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond.

Private burial will take place at a later date in the Belmond Cemetery.

Gerald Eugene, son of Merle R. and Margaret (Olsen) Bailey, was born on January 9, 1951 in Hampton. Jerry grew up in the Alexander area where he attended grade school. He graduated from Belmond High School in 1969. While in high school, Jerry played trumpet in the band and showed white faced beef heifers for 4-H. Jerry was a member of the Army National Guard. Following graduation, Jerry worked at the seed company in Belmond for 16 years. He then moved on to Eaton’s for the next 24 years.

On June 27, 1970, Jerry was united in marriage to Sharon Weide at the First Reformed Church in Meservey. The couple was blessed with two children, Michael in 1973 and Tammy in 1977.

Jerry enjoyed camping, fishing, and tinkering with his lawn mowers and golf cart. He loved drag racing his truck. Spending time with his family was most important to him.

Jerry is survived by his wife Sharon of Belmond; son Michael E. (Aleen) Bailey of Alexander; daughter Tammy (Marty) Countryman of Kanawha; four grandchildren Brandon and Zachary Withers of Belmond and Michael A. and Alora Bailey of Garner; three step-grandchildren Skylar Koebrick of Northwood and Christian and Courtney Perry of Mason City; brother Merle Dean Bailey of Rowan; two brothers-in-law; and many other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Merle R. and Margaret (Olsen) Bailey; parents-in-law Fred and Edna (Wessels) Weide; brother Vernon Bailey; one sister-in-law; and four brothers-in-law.
