Obituary


Gerald L. "Jerry" Thompson, 73, of Belmond passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at his home in Belmond.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday Jan. 8, at the United Church of Christ Congregational in Belmond. Pastor Donna Buckman will officiate. Burial for Jerry will take place at a later date in the Belmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday Jan. 7, at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane S. in Belmond.
Jerry was born on Feb. 15, 1941, to Frank Emery and Anna Marie Peterson Thompson. Jerry grew up in the Belmond area, graduating from Belmond High in 1959.
Jerry began seeing Millie Harms, and they later married on Aug. 28, 1970, in in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They made their home in Belmond and raised two sons on a fun-loving, active and popular street, 8th Avenue Northeast, known to some as “Sesame Street”.
Jerry worked for Central Soya for 17 years and Winnebago Industries for 21 years. He belonged to a coffee club and birthday club and enjoyed getting together with friends for coffee, snacks and catching up with the latest happenings. Jerry loved traveling, taking his family on many trips. They had been from one coast to the other and taken tours abroad.
Jerry went on many fishing trips with his buddies, catching many fish and landing a few nice big ones. Jerry liked to get away from the cold winters, so they would go to Texas.
Left to survive is the love of his life Millie, son John of Algona and son Marty of Belmond; grandchildren Douglas (Casey) of Ohio, Anna Marie and Mary of Belmond; two great-grandchildren Norah Jean and Blake of Ohio, three sisters-in-law, Margie Thompson of Guthrie Center, Sandy Thompson of Belmond, and Paula Harms of Belmond.

Preceding him in death are his parents, brothers, Marvin, Harold, and Ronnie; sister, Mary, and brother-in-law Dennis Harms.
