Obituary


Gertie Elsie Hankins, 99, passed away Sunday, February 23, 1997, at North Iowa Mercy Health Center in Mason City, Iowa.

Gertie, the daughter of Andrew John and Ranske (Miller) Ennen, was born June 2, 1897, near Britt.  She attended country school.  As a young lady she helped on her parents farm.  On July 9, 1919, she was united in marriage with James Hankins at Wesley, Iowa.  The couple made their home on a farm near Britt.  They then moved to Guthrie Center where James worked as an mining engineer.  After his accident, they then moved to Indianapolis, IN.  In 1945, they moved to the Corwith area where they farmed.  Gertie also helped in the grocery store which her husband and brother-in-law ran.  Gertie enjoyed needlework, quilting, embroidering and crafts.  She also enjoyed making gifts at Christmas time for family and friends.   Gertie was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church and the Esther Circle -WELC.

Gertie is survived by her children, James and his wife, Ellen of Banner Elk, NC; Katheryn Quebe and her husband, Charlie of Corwith; Richard of Algona; Gloria Adams and her husband, John, Jr. of Corwith; twelve grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren/

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, Harold and Howard, six brothers and three sisters, her granddaughter Phyllis & her husband, Dave and their daughter Jackie.
