Obituary


Gertie Lydia VanderStoep, 90, passed away Saturday, July 8, 1995 at the Hancock COunty Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Gertie, the oldest of seven children was born on July 18, 1904 in Appeldorn, Netherlands, to John and Marie Slapendahl Koldenhoven.  At the age of 8 she moved with her parents to the United States to Ireton, Iowa.  She was educated in country schools in Plymouth County.  In 1927 she was united in marriage with Ed VanderStoep.  The couple farmed in the Plymouth County area and then in 1938 moved to a farm in Hollandale.  After the death of her husband in 1969 she moved into Hollandale.  In May of 1994, Gertie moved to the Kanawha Community Home.  SHe enjoyed crocheting and embroidering.  Gertie was a member of the Hollandale Christian Reformed Church and the Helping Hand Ladies Aide.

Gertie is survived by two daughters: Marian Slings of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Carolyn Ruter and her husband, Flen of Kanawha, Iowa; one son John VanderStoep and his wife, Elsie of Hollandale, Minnesota; eleven grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister: Lydia Bos of Orange City, Iowa; two brothers Edward Koldenhoven of Colorado and Richard Koldenhoven of Sheldon, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, a grandchild, a son-in-law and three brothers.
