Obituary


Gladys Cink, 96, of Britt formerly of the Woden area, passed away Monday, May 20, 2013 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Gladys Cink will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 139 3rd Street South East, in Britt with Rev. Dennis Miller officiating.  Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Wesley. 

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.  A scriptural wake service will be at 7:00 PM on Friday in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Gladys Anna Cink was born August 27, 1916 in Wesley to Henry and Anne (Studer) Haverly.  She graduated from Wesley High School and attended the Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in Cedar Falls.

Gladys was united in marriage to Edward L. Cink on December 29, 1936 in Wesley.  The couple made their home on a farm southwest of Woden, and to this union, 9 children were born. Gladys is survived by her children: Donna (Jerry) Gray of Omaha, NE; Duane (Pat) Cink of Bakersfield, CA; David (Nancy) Cink of Manteca, CA; Danny (Sharon) Cink of Aztec, NM ; Jack (Deb) Cink of Bakersfield, CA; Jim (Jean) Cink of Britt, IA; Ann (Bob) A’Hearn of Scottsdale, AZ; Bill (Kathie) Cink of Cedar Rapids, IA; and Mary Sellers of Cedar Rapids, IA; along with 27 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 7 great great-grandchildren, and 3 siblings; Ken (Mary) Haverly, Paul Haverly, Audra Haverly, sisters-in-law Rose Ann Haverly, Shirley Haverly and numerous other family members and friends.

Gladys was a homemaker working alongside her husband providing for her family. Everyone was blessed to eat at her table as she was one of the best cooks around. As her children were growing up, Gladys was active in 4H serving as a leader and a judge at many fairs. Gladys was also active in Sacred Heart Church in Woden, teaching catechism and as a member of the ladies guild.  

Gladys and Ed retired to Woden in 1970.  Ed passed away in August of 1992. Gladys moved to Britt in 2005.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ed, grandson Travis Cink, sisters Dorothy Healy and Margaret Theisen, and brothers Clarence Haverly, Hugh Haverly, and Dennis Haverly.
