Obituary


Gladys Spainhower, 93, of Clarion passed away Friday March 28, 2008 at Careage of Clarion. Memorial services for Gladys Spainhower will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday April 1, 2008 at the Ewing Funeral Home, 602 North Main Street, in Clarion with Pastor Gary Boen officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home on Tuesday. Gladys Nora Spainhower, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth (Thompson) Anderson, was born on June 25, 1914 in Wright County, Iowa.  Gladys grew up on a farm near Clarion with her parents, five brothers and six sisters.  She attended school in the area and graduated from high school. Gladys was united in marriage to William Minor Spainhower in 1937.  The couple lived on a farm near Holmes where they raised their family.  In 1953, they moved into Clarion and William passed away shortly after the move.  Gladys worked numerous jobs throughout the Clarion area to support her family.  Even at the age of 84 Gladys worked to care for a close friend who needed her help. Gladys was a member of First Lutheran Church in Clarion.  She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend who loved to bake for all who would come to visit.  If people couldn’t come to see Gladys she would make every effort to go see them instead. Gladys is survived by her children:  Jerry Delger of Show Low, Arizona, Barbara (Melvin) Hanus of Webster City and Chuck (Rose) Spainhower of Aiea, Hawaii; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; brother Norvelle (Nellie) Anderson; 3 sisters: Helen Busick of Clarion, Ruth (Harold) Lamfers of Ina, Kansas and Arlene (Brad) Smith of St. Cloud, Minnesota; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband William Minor Spainhower; son William Minor Spainhower, Jr.; grandson William; 4 brothers; and 3 sisters.
