Obituary


Gladys Chelsvig, 95, passed away early Wednesday morning (January 6, 1999) at the Kanawha Community Nursing Home.

Gladys, the daughter of Henry and Margaret (Johnson) Severson, was born on February 16, 1903 near Kanawha, Iowa.  She attended country schools in the Kanawha area.

Gladys was married to Arthur Chelsvig in 1923.  They made their home on a farm near Kanawha.  They were members of the St. Olaf Lutheran Church at Belmond.  Gladys was a member of the St. Olaf Ladies Aid for many years.  Gladys' interests were all centered around her home and family.  Her favorite hobby was her sewing.  In 1952, they moved to town and she transferred her membership to the Kanawha Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Kae Dallman and her husband, Louis of Kanawha; her son Keith, and his wife, Esther of Lawrenceville, Illinois; two sisters, Arlene Zeigler and Frances Anderson, both of Kanawha.  Also surviving are eight grandchildren, five grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Art, in 1986, one brother, and five sisters.
